www.GulfNews.com Prince Charles, heir to the British throne stayed in a hotel lit only by candle and flashlight as he visited the Siwa oasis on a stop intended to highlight environmentally friendly tourism.
On the fourth day of a tour of Egypt, the prince and his wife, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, inspected small-scale aid schemes such as a British-sponsored embroidery business that combines traditional craft with modern design in this town cut off from Cairo by 550km of desert.
The royal couple also visited the Temple of Amun, built by a late pharaoh in 570 BC.
Charles and Camilla stayed at the Andrere Amellal Ecolodge, a hotel that uses beeswax candles and torches for light.
The hotel's dining room offers only organic food, a menu that would appeal to Charles as a longtime champion of such food.
