www.allafrica.com Muhamed Kezaala, the Jinja Municipality mayor, has signed an agreement with Malaysian investors to put up a multi-billion resort at the Source of the Nile.
The deal for the hotel to be called The Source of the Nile Resort was sealed on Monday between Kezaala and Hassan Kimbugwe, the leader of the Malaysian investors' delegation. Kezaala said the deal will see the Source of the Nile beautified to attract more tourists. "The signing of the agreement will serve as a sparkle for more investors to come to Jinja. "With this project, the town will grow to unprecedented proportions," the mayor said after the signing ceremony. Kezaala urged more investors to do business in Jinja, saying the conditions were favourable for the hospitality industry. He called for the protection and the beautification of environment. Kimbugwe said the construction works, to be done in phases, were expected to begin before the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (Chogm) in Kampala in November. The project, once completed, he said would be a world heritage site. "It will provide employment to over 100 locals. "It will be a five-star hotel with 100 rooms, an 18-hole golf course, shopping arcade, recreational facilities, health centres and a gym," Kimbugwe explained. The Source of the Nile Resort will be among the newest additions to the hospitality industry in Jinja after the recently renovated Jinja Nile Resort Hotel.
Top officials at the Jinja Nile Resort Hotel said last week that over sh72b had been invested in the reconstruction works of the resort said to be ready for Chogm.
