UgandaA is to promote its budding tourism at a bird watching fair in Britain, top tourism officials have said.
According to the Uganda Tourist Board (UTB), institutions dealing in bird watching will participate in the British Bird Fair, an annual event expected to take place this month.
Speaking recently, Damian Akankwasa, the director of tourism under the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), said they would send two experts as part of the team comprising eight people.
Akankwasa said UWA had began exploiting bird watching in protected areas because it is one of Uganda's unique attractions.
"We have began promoting new products such as bird watching because we want to concentrate on a few activities and do them well," he said.
UTB and UWA are engaged in marketing Uganda as an eco-tourism (tourism which attracts few but high spenders and benefits local communities) destination.
The team will also comprise expert guides from Uganda Bird Guides Club, which in the recent past had been marketing Uganda as a bird watching destination.
The club's president J. Kamugisha said they had reaped a lot from previous promotions. |
