Royal Jordanian will resume its regular flights to the Malaysian capital, Kuala Lumpur, on June 2, after a 7-year suspension in operations between the two countries (which stopped in 2003) due to the weak economic feasibility of the route over the past years.
RJ President/CEO Hussein Dabbas pointed out that the decision to reconnect Jordan and Malaysia came in light of the Malaysian economic revival and the growth of its commercial activity and tourism. Malaysia is considered a gateway to Southeast Asia, particularly in the economic field.
Dabbas said that the feasibility studies the company conducted showed that resuming flights to Kuala Lumpur is bound to service the economic and commercial movement, and the communities living in the two countries, particularly students and businessmen. Additionally, RJ will be transporting tourist groups to and from Malaysia, as Malaysia is a preferred destination for Jordanian families and various other countries in the region.
Dabbas also said that Jordan constitutes a stop for the Malaysian passengers traveling to the holy places in Mecca, Medina Munawwara and Jerusalem.
RJ will operate three weekly flights, departing from Amman Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, via Bangkok, using modern Airbus 330 aircraft which will join the RJ fleet on the 24th of May. The new A330s have high standards of comfort and luxury features, among which the Audio Video On Demand (AVOD) entertainment system for each passenger on board the 283-seat aircraft.
Kuala Lumpur is the second destination Royal Jordanian has added to its route network in 2010, after the Medina, to which RJ started four weekly flights at the end of March. With Kuala Lumpur added to the RJ network, the airline's destinations reach 58 served directly from Amman, in addition to over 750 other destinations served in collaboration with RJ’s ten partners, members of the oneworld airline alliance. |
