RJ President/CEO Hussein Dabbas said that large numbers of Jordanian citizens started to arrive at Cairo International Airport in the morning of Feb. 1, having heard about the generous offer of His Majesty King Abdullah II who instructed Royal Jordanian to transfer all Jordanian citizens stranded at the airports in Cairo and Alexandria who do not have tickets at the expense of His Majesty.
Dabbas stressed that RJ is committed to implementing the royal directives, noting that the RJ employees are exerting relentless efforts at the Cairo airport, in cooperation with the Jordanian embassy, to ensure the safe return of citizens, in light of the exceptional conditions prevailing in Egypt.
He added that on Jan. 31, the airline carried more than 1,100 Jordanians on board its aircraft flying from Cairo and Alexandria. The last extra flight landed at Queen Alia International Airport with only 41 passengers aboard, while it has a capacity of 170 seats, an indicator that RJ was capable to transport all Jordanians stranded at the Cairo airport on that day.
Dabbas mentioned that RJ aircraft transported 4,000 Jordanians until the morning of Feb. 1. Most of them traveled on the six daily flights that RJ has started operating since last Sunday. RJ has been running large-capacity aircraft to operate two extra flights, in addition to the four scheduled daily services.
Dabbas pointed out that Royal Jordanian will operate four scheduled flights and one extra trip to Cairo on Feb. 1, in addition to the scheduled flight to Alexandria and two chartered flights to Aswan, to carry Jordanian tourists from there.
According to the RJ president, the delayed departures of RJ flights from Cairo airport were the result of overcrowding, both of passengers and of aircraft, which impaired the airport ability to serve tens of thousands of passengers flying to various parts of the world in a short time.
Around 1,300 Jordanians are expected to arrive today to the Kingdom on board RJ aircraft from all over Egypt.
