In the popular Jabal Amman area, which has become a hub for locals and visitors alike, several visitor experiences and information sources have been introduced to ensure that people get the most out of their visit. The Jabal Amman Residents Association (JARA), with support from USAID Jordan Tourism Development Project (Siyaha), today officially launched the Jabal Amman Historical Exhibition, a cultural walking trail, and the Jabal Amman Visitor Information Center. These provide information about the area and Jordan at large, with the aim of providing information and promoting activities of interest to visitors in order to enhance the tourist experience and prolong visitor stay. The event was held under the patronage of H.E. the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, and included the opening of the annual summer event "Souk JARA".
"Jordan’s tourism appeal is not just about the big archaeological sites; as well as unique landscapes and nature, the culture and the people reveal much about the rich history of the country, and Jabal Amman is a great example of this. The services being launched today are a great example of how civil society can actively contribute to developing tourism and we hope that this achievement will inspire Jordanians to replicate this successful effort in other parts of the Kingdom," said H.E. Nayef Al Fayez, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities.
“The tourism sector is growing, but to fully benefit from this opportunity, Jordan must get visitors to stay longer and spend more of their travel budget right here in Jordan!” noted Mr. Doug Ball, USAID Deputy Mission Director. “I am very happy to see that this dynamic neighborhood association, JARA, understands this opportunity, and has risen to the challenge by operating and managing the Jabal Amman Tourism Information Center.”
"Over the past few decades Jabal Amman has been a center of cultural diversity, home to many of Jordan’s prominent families and it has witnessed major historical events. In recent years its popularity has returned as both city residents and visitors appreciate what this quaint little part of town has to offer," explained Khader Kawwas, Acting President of JARA.
According to the chairman of the Jordan Inbound Tour Operators Association (JITOA), H.E. Munir Nassar, "The new information center will be a terrific starting point for visitors to the area, enabling them to better understand the history and significance of Jabal Amman through the exhibit and the walking tour, and as a result create a more enjoyable experience,”
The JARA Visitor Information Center is the first multi-purpose center of its kind in the area was launched to guide visitors and provide them with accurate and updated information on the range of experiences, attractions and services available in Jordan, and Jabal Amman in specific. Also launched today is the Jabal Amman Walking Trail, which begins at the visitor center and guides walkers through the area, passing key historical and cultural attractions in Jabal Amman. An engaging exhibition was also opened to showcase the history of the area through displaying an array of photos and interpretive panels.
This achievement was financially and technically supported by USAID/Siyaha which helped JARA set up and promote the informative visitor center and the exhibition, in addition to developing and creating the design the walking trail brochure. |
