InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) is known for its commitment to the environment, and its numerous activities and initiatives aimed at being environmentally friendly and providing a clean environment for its colleagues and guests and its various stakeholders. Therefore, each of the IHG cluster hotels in Jordan is committed to several activities to make sure that their work and operations are as ‘clean’ and environmentally friendly as possible.
At InterContinental Aqaba Resort, activities and procedures are undertaken in order to reduce the consumption of electricity and water to the minimum, such as switching off computers, lights and AC in offices after operation, and water meters that are in place to monitor all the areas on a daily basis, among many other activities. Plans are undergoing as well to replace the normal lights with light-emitting diode (LED) light bulbs.
At Crowne Plaza Amman, energy-saving LED light bulbs are being installed at the hotel. Also, Crowne Plaza Amman is committed to recycling the hotel waste. Furthermore, water saving fitting has been installed at the guestroom bathrooms, which saves more than 10% of water consumption. The old diesel boiler burners have been replaced with new ones that increase efficiency by 5%, as well as reduce the fuel consumption and gas emissions.
At Holiday Inn Resort Dead Sea, work is underway to replace incandescent lamps and spot lights into LED light bulbs. Also, the lighting level has been changed and wall lighting has been used instead of ceiling lighting; this saves energy as it is much lower in wattage. The resort also takes care of recycling all waste and used material. Energy consumption monitoring is done on a daily basis too.
It is worth mentioning that both InterContinental Aqaba Resort and Crowne Plaza Amman have been awarded the Green key program certificate. Also, InterContinental Aqaba Resort has been awarded with the Blue Flag program certificate, and Holiday Inn Resort Dead Sea is currently working on fulfilling the requirements related to the Blue Flag program certificate. |
