Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" Returns to Berlin
The original version of Fritz Lang's famous film "Metropolis" is coming back to the silver screen for the 60th International Film Festival. In a gala presentation on February 12, 2010 at the Friedrichstadtpalast, the restored version of the silent film classic will celebrate a new premiere eighty-three years after its original release. Running concurrently, an exhibition in Berlin's Museum für Film und Fernsehen [Museum of Film and Television] will recount the production history of the film classic
Charlottenburg: Luise–Life and Myth of a Queen
The life and legend of Queen Luise of Prussia, who was famous both for her beauty and her political involvement, are the central themes of the new exhibition at the Charlottenburg Palace. More than 350 paintings, sculptures, and historical documents may be seen, including masterpieces by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, Johann Gottfried Schadow, and Christian Daniel Rauch. Coming in Autumn: Two New Musicals in Berlin
On November 9, 2010, the world premiere of the Udo Lindenberg musical "Hinterm Horizont" ["Beyond the Horizon"] will take place in the Theater am Potsdamer Platz. Twenty years after the reunification of Germany, the piece tells a surprising "East-West-Side Story" with all of the great Lindenberg songs?a voyage in time filled with fateful encounters and boundless emotions. In contrast, "We Will Rock You", the worldwide success with the immortal songs by Queen, will premier in October in the Theater des Westens. European Premiere: Walton Ford's Bestiarium at the Hamburger Bahnhof
The exotic and highly detailed watercolors by American artist Walton Ford can be seen in Berlin at the Hamburger Bahnhof?Museum für Gegenwart (Hamburg Railway Station?Museum of the Present). At first glance, the works are reminiscent of naturalist prints from colonial times, but upon a second viewing, they are filled with symbols and allusions. They can now be seen in Europe for the first time
New Show at the Wintergarten Berlin

After a one year break, the legendary theater on Potsdamer Straße is currently experiencing a renaissance under a new operator. The first show through May 1, 2010 presents an imaginative, fast-paced program with entitled "Die fabelhafte Varieté Show" ("The Fabulous Variety Show").
German Premiere of "Troja" at O2 World
For more than three thousand years, the legend of the Trojan War has endured, and on March 13, 2010, "Troja?die Tanzshow" ("Troy?The Dance Show") will receive its German premiere at O2 World in Berlin. "Troja" brings to life the myth of the ancient city, of love and war in an exciting stage show with 120 dancers, sounds of the Near East, and exotic costumes.
Drive-in Movies at the Temporäre Kunsthalle
Shortly before the Berlinale, beginning on February 5, British artist Phil Collins will transform the Temporäre Kunsthalle into a unique indoor drive-in movie theater. Used cars that have been spread around will offer viewers exclusive loge seats for a regularly changing program of film classics and art videos.
100° Berlin Festival of Independent Theater
Beginning on March 4, the theaters Hebbel am Ufer and Sophiensaele are putting on the festival 100°, the 7th Extended Weekend of Independent Theater. For four days, independent performance and theater groups will showcase their talents on stages, in foyers, and even in dressing rooms and corridors. Each night after the performances, late-night commentators will summarize their impressions of the day. Afterward, it?s time to party and dance until dawn. MaerzMusik 2010–Festival of Modern Music
With a broad spectrum of contemporary and innovative sounds, "MaerzMusik 2010?Festival of Modern Music" will run from March 19 to 28 at some ten venues. Both established artists and the new generation from all over the world will present a selection of new pieces that deal with the subjects of utopia, memory,and death. One especially popular feature is the nighttime series "Sonic Arts Lounge", offering listening pleasure of a very special kind.
Malzfabrik Shows Its True Colors
The exhibition "Farbwerte?SchwarzRotGold" ("Color Values?BlackRedGold") opened January 29 in the Malzfabrik. On display are works by more than sixty artists, designers, and fashion designers from all over the world who creatively delve into the German flag. This national symbol forms the sole common point of the varied works and makes an appearance in all of them. The exhibition may be seen through February 28, after which the project will move on to Shanghai.
