15th Carnival of Cultures in Kreuzberg
Opulent costumes, imaginative masks, and colorfully decorated floats – Berlin has been celebrating the Carnival of Cultures during Pentecost since 1996. In addition to the street fair from May 21 to 24, 2010, the highpoint of all of the hustle and bustle will be the parade through the streets of Kreuzberg on Pentecost Sunday. Around 4,800 participants from seventy countries will celebrate Berlin’s cultural diversity with the visitors.
Wintergarten: Berlin is the New Leading Actor
Just like the capital city itself, the new show “Made in Berlin” in the Wintergarten Varieté is multifaceted and fascinating. Starting on May 6, 2010, internationally successful artists from Berlin will bring variety to the stage. And in musical terms, director Markus Pabst traces an arch through Berlin history – from Marlene Dietrich to Peter Fox.
Sandsation 2010 for the First Time at O2 World
For the eighth time now, Berlin’s summer will once again be enriched by Sandsation, the international sand sculpture festival. But for the first time, the festival will be taking place on the square next to the O2 World in the Friedrichshain district of Berlin, from June 6 to August 29, 2010. With the motto “Head in the Sand”, more than twenty renowned artists will create a fascinating open-air gallery
First Theatertreffen@Sony Center Screen
It doesn’t always have to be soccer. For the first time, three productions of the Berlin Theatertreffen theater festival will be shown on a giant screen at the Sony Center on the Potsdamer Platz from May 14 to 16. Admission is free. The theater festival will present the current season’s best productions from May 7 to 24, 2010.
Passion and Death in the Bode Museum
After the successful premiere last year, conductor and director Christoph Hagel has returned to the Bode Museum with his spectacular staging of "Orpheus and Eurydice". Through June 12, young French sensation Manu Laude will dance the role of Death, accompanied by the Berliner Symphoniker.
Reality and Fiction – the 6th berlin bienniale
From June 11 to August 8, 2010, Berlin will be humming with contemporary art. At the 6th berlin biennale, young artists will be presenting their works, which this year will deal with the questions “What is art? What is reality?” The pieces will be on display at various locations, including at the KW Institute for Contemporary Art.
Night of Love” at the Waldbühne
To close out the concert season, the Berlin Philharmonic present once a year a special concert under the stars. On June 27, 2010, they will perform together with soprano Renée Fleming at the Waldbühne with a “Night of Love”. The program will include works by Mussorgsky and Smetana
Blue Man Group Even More International
Since as early as 2004, the blue men have been conquering the German capital with their unusual show format. In the future, even more attendees will be able to experience the fantasy world at the Potsdamer Platz, as both texts and scenes have been optimized for the international public. The Blue Man Group will now also conquer the hearts of English-speaking visitors by storm.
Anniversary: 100 Years of the Liebermann Villa
The Liebermann Villa, the summer home of the famed Berlin painter and graphic artist Max Liebermann, is turning one hundred years old. On the occasion of this milestone birthday, a large anniversary exhibition may be seen there through August 15, 2010. On display will be a multitude of paintings and drawings that deal with the idea of the “house in the green space”.
Hip Hop Comedy goes Berlin
Having performed at the 2009 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and gone on to become a favorite of the public, they are now on a tour of Germany with a German-speaking cast. The comedy show “FLhip Flhop” will be making a stop at Berlin's Postbahnhof. From May 20 to 22 and June 4 to 6, 2010, the two performances will entertain audiences with amusing hip-hop and beatbox interludes |
