Rally Ireland Hosts 150,000 Spectators

www.rallyireland.org Rally Ireland, the 15th and 16th rounds in the 2007 World Rally Championship were held from 15th – 18th November. This is the first ever World Championship rally to be held in Ireland and Ireland is the first new country to host a World Rally event since Japan and Mexico in 2004.Rally Ireland was unique due to its cross-border nature. Leading politicians, North and South and top Rally Stars united in their support to stage the first ever World Rally in Ireland. The event opened with a Super Special Stage in Stormont, Northern Ireland’s Parliament Buildings, on Thursday 15th and finished on Sunday, 18th in the picturesque harbour of Mullaghmore, Sligo, on Ireland’s dramatic North West coast. The event route included eight counties, both north and south among them Antrim, Cavan, Donegal, Fermanagh, Leitrim, Roscommon, Sligo and Tyrone, across some of Ireland’s most scenic country roads.Apart from the rally action, many of the towns along the stages held street carnivals.Over 90 cars competed, there were 150,000 spectators, 60 helicopters, 2,000 stewards from all over the world, 24 TV Channels, 80 million TV viewers worldwide and 5.5 hours of live TV coverage.
