A Photographic Odyssey Through the Muslim World

www.islamonline.com This is a beautiful photo-intensive book of the Islamic world by Peter Abdul-Adheem Sanders
is based on the last ten years of the travels of Peter Sanders, a world-class photographer based in the UK.
Reflecting on the wonderful photos in this volume, one finds the architecture, people, and landscapes of the Muslim world somehow communicating the subtle and sublime spirituality of Islam and the demeanor of a land and people little understood in the West.
Such a collection of excellent photography has the uncommon authority of dispelling stubborn myths in a way that no lecture or academic treatise can dare attempt. The photos are accompanied by quotations from the Qur'an, the Prophet , or scholars.
Also included are brief histories of the photos and Mr. Sanders' experience in taking them.
Peter Sanders was born in London in 1946. His professional career in photography began during the mid-sixties where he photographed most of the major stars in the music business including Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, The Who, the Rolling Stones etc. In 1970 he made a photographic/spiritual journey to India. His enthusiasm for studying religion introduced him to Islam whose spiritual beauty left an indelible impression upon him. After his return to England, he embraced Islam and was given the name Abd al-Adheem. His continued travels have taken him from West Africa to East Africa, around the Middle East including Makkah, Madinah and Jerusalem, Europe and the USA. He says that photography really is a gift from God. Its a wonderful process, you learn so much about yourself by doing it. Often when I'm taking pictures it seems as if I'm chasing a moment, like a beautiful bird that keeps escaping you.
