www.peregrineadventures.co.uk Peregrine Adventures’ new dedicated family adventure brochure has just hit the shelves detailing twelve different itineraries across the globe to entice travelling families. The new 12-day ‘Orang-Utan-Go’ itinerary in the Malaysian province of Sabah, on the island of Borneo, offers remarkable value for money with seven departures in 2005, the next being 27th June, and a further nine planned for 2006.
With dense rainforests, tropical coastal islands and mysterious jungle valleys, Borneo has become a rare and special place on the planet today. Parents and their children will encounter a rich variety of colourful and endangered wildlife including Orang-utans, Proboscis Monkeys and numerous species of exotic birdlife.
Families will cycle through Kota Kinabalu (don’t panic if your last bike was a Chopper, it’s all on the flat and helmets are provided!), wander through Mesilau Nature Resort in the Mt Kinabalu World Heritage area, walk 40 metres up in the rainforest canopy at Kinabalu Park and take a dip in the invigorating though sulphurously stinky Poring Hot Springs.
A visit to the Sepilok Orang-utan rehabilitation centre, where survival skills are taught to orphaned great apes, allowing them to be re-introduced into the wild, is a particularly memorable highlight. Later during an evening cruise down the Kinabatangan River, families will have their eyes pealed for Proboscis Monkeys, macaques, hornbills, otters and crocodiles, to name just a few! The final three days are spent relaxing at the Beringgis Beach Resort near Kota Kinabalu, though those with a high power to body-weight ratio may wish to indulge in a spot of white-water rafting (grade 2 – easy / lifejackets provided) on the Kilus River. |
