www.nst.com After releasing the lanterns, Sultan Azlan Shah signed a plaque to commemorate the opening of the RM60 million theme park developed by the Sunway Group on 14.6ha of land in Sunway City, Ipoh.
The theme park, designed along the lines of a lost civilisation, is part of the 538ha Sunway City Ipoh resort worth RM2billion, including residential and commercial developments.
The official opening began when a torch bearer, clad in warrior’s regalia, lead several tribal dancers who danced at the park’s water shoreline, moving to a pulsating jungle rhythm while spraying water into the air.
The highlight was a 15-minute fireworks display that enthralled more than 1,000 spectators.
Tajol Rosli said the theme park has the same potential as other tourist spots in Perak like Pangkor Island and the Royal Belum jungle.
”I hope it will help us increase our tourist arrivals this year” he said, adding that in the past decade, the State government has been actively promoting Perak to domestic and foreign tourists. In 2003, we recorded 1.7 million arrivals. The number increased to 2.26 million last year and is expected to increase further to 2.5 million this year”.
Amongst the attractions at the theme park are slides, a man-made river measuring 600 metres, a waterpark with turbulent waves and a variety of tube slides.
It also boasts some unique attractions like the Tiger Valley, home to Siberian and Bengal tigers and the Tambun Hot Springs with waters that have an average temperature of 45C. |
