Turtles Desert Malaysian Beaches

www.timesonline.co.uk Only one leatherback turtle has landed at Malaysia’s nesting beaches this year, and no Olive Ridley or hawksbill turtles, compared with the thousands that used to lay eggs there, experts say. Their absence has raised fears that the turtles may be lost from the beaches for ever. Tourists, who flock to watch the annual egg-laying and emergence of scores of hatchlings, right, have been blamed, as have inept hatcheries and bright lights on the sea front. |
