www.peregrineadventures.co.uk There is an old saying in China that ‘…you are not a man until you have been to the Great Wall’. On a new 8-day trek offered by Peregrine Adventures, fit and energetic men and women will prove the point at various sites along the 3,000km long Wall. First departure 15th October.
From Beijing, is a fascinating journey along the backroads of China, observing close up, the everyday life of villagers, with opportunities to meet and interact with the locals.
Much of the tour is spent hiking in remote, lush mountainous areas at some of the country’s greatest sites.
The trek begins in Beijing, visiting the Forbidden City, the Temple of Heaven and the notorious Tiananmen Square. Then is the the Great Wall itself. The walk starts at Huangyaguan, now the venue for an annual international marathon. The next day there is more trekking and a drive to Eastern Qing Tombs, a World Heritagfe Site and the largest burial place of emperors in the country, built to exacting Feng Shui standards.
At Jinshanling, the Great Wall is second only to the Badaling Great Wall in its completeness. Here the trek is alongside the wall for a distance and then on to Simatai. The ruinous state of this part of the Wall gives it an air of authenticity that has earned it the reputation of being the most beautiful section of the Great Wall. First built in the mid-6th century during the Northern Qi dynasty, Mutianyu Great Wall was rebuilt in 1560 and is one of the best preserved sections with watchtowers along its length. Mountainous trekking across forested hillsides and valleys here produces fantastic views and photo opportunities. The tour concludes with a drive back to Beijing for a final night and journey’s end. |
